Remittance
Send or receive eligible local and international transfers through DTB's business remittance services with Western Union, MoneyGram and WorldRemit. Visit a DTB branch for supported cash-pickup and bank-deposit transfers, or use Western Union through the DTB m24/7 app where eligible. Transfer availability depends on the provider, destination, payout method and permitted transaction purpose.
Overview
DTB Remittance can support business owners, sole proprietors and SMEs that need a practical way to send or receive eligible transfers locally or across borders through established international money-transfer networks.
Depending on the selected provider and transfer route, the service can be useful when a business needs to receive funds from an overseas partner or customer, send an eligible payment to a person outside Kenya, collect an urgent remittance in cash, or receive supported transfers directly into a DTB account. Commercial use remains subject to Western Union, MoneyGram or WorldRemit transaction-purpose rules, destination requirements and DTB's compliance checks.
DTB currently partners with Western Union, MoneyGram and WorldRemit. Branch-based services support cash pickup and selected bank-deposit transactions. Western Union is also available through the DTB m24/7 app for eligible account holders. If your business needs a fully digital 24/7 outbound transfer directly from a DTB KES account to supported overseas bank accounts or mobile wallets, review the separate DTB Remit product. If your business makes higher-value supplier, import or contract payments requiring formal trade documentation, also compare DTB Trade Finance and international SWIFT transfer options.

FAQs
A business remittance service is a money-transfer service that may be used for eligible business-related transfers, subject to the provider's rules and permitted transaction purposes. DTB provides access to Western Union, MoneyGram and WorldRemit through supported branch, cash-pickup, bank-deposit and selected mobile channels.
Potentially, yes, if the transfer purpose, sender, destination and payout route are permitted by the selected provider and DTB's compliance requirements. Supported incoming transfers may be available for cash pickup or bank deposit depending on the provider. For regular commercial collections, invoices or higher-value cross-border business payments, ask DTB whether another business-banking or SWIFT solution is more appropriate.
DTB currently lists bank deposit as a supported functionality for WorldRemit and Western Union on eligible transfer routes. Provide the sender with the correct account and payout instructions and confirm that the selected transfer service supports direct bank deposit for your business-related transaction.
Western Union supports selected bank-deposit transactions through DTB. Eligibility depends on the transfer setup, account details, provider rules and compliance checks. Contact DTB if you need the transfer credited to a business account rather than collected in cash.
DTB's Product Guide states that outbound transfers are supported through its money-transfer services. However, the selected provider may restrict certain commercial transaction purposes. Before sending money for a contractor, partner or other business-related purpose, confirm that the purpose is allowed and that a remittance service is the appropriate payment route.
Do not assume every supplier or commercial payment is eligible for a consumer-style remittance network. Western Union and MoneyGram can have transaction-purpose restrictions. For supplier, import or formal trade payments, ask DTB whether SWIFT transfer, foreign-currency business banking or Trade Finance is the more appropriate solution.
DTB's Product Guide identifies DTB and non-DTB customers as the target market. A sole proprietor or small-business owner may use the service where the transfer purpose is permitted and the required identification and transaction information are provided.
DTB's Product Guide states that the money-transfer service targets both DTB and non-DTB customers. A DTB account becomes relevant where the chosen payout is a direct bank deposit or where you use an account-based digital channel such as Western Union on m24/7.
DTB's Product Guide states that WorldRemit is receive-only through DTB, via cash pickup or remittance to a DTB account. Confirm that your transfer purpose and account type are supported before instructing the sender.
DTB states that eligible pickup transfers may be available within minutes. Actual timing depends on the provider, sending status, compliance checks, destination, payout route and branch operating hours. Bank-deposit transfers can have different processing times.
The current live page requires a valid identification document and the transaction reference number for receivable transfers. The provider or DTB may request additional sender, receiver, purpose-of-transfer or compliance information depending on the transaction.
The current DTB page publishes a charge of 1% of the principal amount. Confirm the applicable total cost, taxes, exchange rate and destination/channel terms before authorising the transfer.
DTB currently publishes tiered MoneyGram charges ranging from KES 95 on the lowest amount band to KES 600 on the higher published bands. Confirm the exact amount band, current transfer limit, exchange rate and destination pricing before sending.
DTB's Product Guide states that local transfers from one town to another within Kenya can be supported through applicable branches or outlets. Confirm the currently available provider, payout location and permitted transfer purpose before sending.
Cash pickup can be useful when the recipient needs immediate physical access to funds and does not require an account deposit. Bank deposit can be more suitable when the recipient wants a transaction credited directly to an account and recorded there. Compare speed, provider eligibility, documentation and total charges for the specific transfer.
Remittance services are often designed for faster, relatively simple transfers using established money-transfer networks. SWIFT transfers are generally better suited to formal bank-to-bank cross-border payments, especially where invoices, business beneficiaries, higher values or detailed payment records are involved. Ask DTB which route fits your transaction purpose and amount.
A remittance moves money from sender to receiver. Trade Finance supports commercial trade transactions using instruments such as letters of credit, documentary collections and guarantees to manage payment, documentation and performance risk. If your business is importing, exporting or paying a supplier under contract, Trade Finance may be more appropriate than a simple remittance.
The Remittance page covers Western Union, MoneyGram and WorldRemit, including branch-based cash pickup and supported bank deposit, with Western Union also available on m24/7. DTB Remit is a separate self-service 24/7 outbound service for eligible individual KES account holders sending directly to supported overseas bank accounts and mobile wallets.
The live Remittance page does not publish a negotiated-rate feature. Exchange rates depend on the provider and transaction. Ask for or review the applicable exchange rate and the final amount the receiver will get before confirming the transfer.
Compare whether your transaction purpose is permitted, destination coverage, total fee, exchange rate, amount received, delivery speed, bank-deposit versus cash-pickup options, branch/mobile access, transaction limits, compliance documentation and whether a formal bank transfer or Trade Finance solution would be more appropriate. DTB gives customers access to multiple transfer providers, allowing the available route to be matched to the payment need.
